15 Phu Quoc Landmarks: Choosing Spots by Sea, Forest and Culture

Phu Quoc landmarks encompass much more than just famous beaches. The island also features pristine forests, rocky streams, fishing villages, cultural sites, and a system of small islands to the south. The list below focuses entirely on scenery and independent travel experiences, excluding amusement parks and commercial complexes.

Beautiful Beaches and Capes

1. Sao Beach

Sao Beach stands out for its bright white sand and calm waters on clear days. Arrive early to enjoy the open space, and avoid touching or lifting starfish out of the water if you encounter these natural creatures.

2. Khem Beach

Khem Beach features a soft curve, fine sand, and stunning water colors on sunny days. Some sections have specific access regulations, so observe posted signs and respect restricted areas.

3. Truong Beach

Truong Beach stretches along the western side of the island and serves as a convenient sunset viewing spot. Each coastal section has unique characteristics; choose clean areas with public access paths and avoid swimming during high waves.

4. Vung Bau Beach

Vung Bau Beach suits those who prefer a quiet beach with fewer noisy activities. Access roads can change seasonally, so check maps and road conditions before heading out.

5. Ganh Dau

Ganh Dau impresses visitors with its cape, coastal rocks, and sweeping ocean views. This is a great stop during a North Island itinerary, especially in the early morning or late afternoon.

Fishing Villages and Coastal Cultural Spaces

6. Rach Vem

Rach Vem features a fishing village, wooden walkways, and shallow waters. Rainy season roads can be difficult to navigate. When viewing starfish, do not lift them out of the water, avoid stepping on the seabed where organisms live, and refrain from applying sunscreen right before entering shallow waters.

7. Ham Ninh Fishing Village

Ham Ninh is ideal for observing local fishing life and tasting seafood. Experiences should focus on local culture, checking prices before ordering, and avoiding interference with fishermen’s mooring and unloading areas.

8. Dinh Cau Shrine

Dinh Cau sits on a rocky outcrop near the Duong Dong river mouth, serving as both a spiritual site and a viewpoint for the sea and sunset. When visiting, dress modestly, keep quiet, and watch out for slippery stone steps.

9. Phu Quoc Prison

This is a historical site that should be approached with a respectful attitude. The exhibits can evoke strong emotions, so families traveling with young children should consider this beforehand.

Forests, Streams and Natural Landscapes

10. Tranh Stream

Tranh Stream is more scenic when water levels are higher, typically during the rainy season. Stone paths can be slippery; avoid climbing high during heavy rains or fast-flowing turbid water.

11. Da Ban Stream

Broad rock slabs characterize Da Ban Stream. This is a suitable spot for a short picnic, but wear shoes with good grip, do not leave trash behind, and avoid standing too close to the water’s edge during rain.

12. Phu Quoc National Park

The northern forest region offers an experience completely different from the beaches. Stick only to permitted trails, do not pick plants, avoid feeding wildlife, and travel with an experienced guide if choosing longer routes.

Southern Phu Quoc Islets

13. An Thoi Archipelago

The An Thoi Archipelago consists of numerous small islands where water colors shift with the weather. Only choose boats equipped with safety gear, wear life jackets, and avoid stepping on coral reefs while swimming or snorkeling.

14. Hon Mong Tay (Fingernail Island)

Hon Mong Tay is favored for its small shoreline and clear water. Natural capacity is limited, so avoid peak hours, pack out all your trash, and do not break coral for souvenirs.

15. Hon Thom

Aside from tourism services, Hon Thom still retains coastal scenery, residential hamlets, and beautiful viewpoints. If your goal is an independent experience, prioritize sea activities with safety guidance and explore local life.

Choosing Spots by Season and Region

  • Dry season: Prioritize beaches, small islands, and western sunsets.
  • Rainy season: Streams have more water, but you must monitor floods, winds, and rough seas.
  • One day in North Island: National Park – Rach Vem – Ganh Dau.
  • One day in South Island: Sao Beach – Khem Beach – historical site – An Thoi Archipelago if weather permits.

Do not try to cram all 15 spots into a short trip. Choosing based on location, weather, and personal preferences will make your Phu Quoc journey efficient, safer, and leave more time to truly absorb the scenery.
